Arrival and Morning Work Period

The teachers greet children personally as they arrive and gently guide them into the morning work cycle. The morning work period is an opportunity for the child to make individual choices from the carefully prepared interactive learning environment. Children may work independently or with friends.

During this morning work time, children focus on their individual interests under the guidance of the teachers. Teachers give individual or small group lesson presentations. Children practice lessons previously given, chat with friends and help each other.

Gathering Time

The class comes together for group sharing, music and movement activities, stories, and lessons.

Children and teachers eat together in the classroom. It is a time when children learn Grace & Courtesy skills and social conversation skills. Children help set up lunches and clean up after lunch.

Outdoor Time

Children enjoy unstructured outside playtime developing a sense of creativity and adventure. The outdoor time will also include nature walks, gardening, and participation in beautification projects and grounds maintenance.

Rest and Quiet Time

After outdoor time, the younger children who stay full day rest on their cots.

Afternoons for Older Children

The older children gather together for quiet story time and then begin their afternoon work cycle. Afternoons allow more time for individual and social development. Children have the opportunity to work on advanced lessons. They receive individual and small group lessons in reading, math and handwriting.
